Vienna airports — VIE · LOWW

Vienna.

Vienna is a 24-hour international airport with a dedicated General Aviation Center on the western side of the field — no aircraft size limit, 3,600 m of runway, CAT IIIB approaches. What shapes a charter here is not opening hours but coordination: slots open only 28 days out, and the night is capped movement by movement.

Chartering from Vienna

Vienna is fully coordinated — IATA Level 3 — and every IFR business aviation flight needs an airport slot from the GA operations office. The mechanics are precise: requests open 28 days before the flight, the confirmed Slot ID goes into flight-plan item 18, tolerance is ±30 minutes, and unused slots must be cancelled, not traded. We handle that paperwork; what the client feels is simply that Vienna rewards early booking and punishes schedule drift.

Night access — capped, not closed

There is no absolute curfew, but the mediation agreement caps core-night movements (23:30–05:30) at roughly 4,700 per year, coordination allows just two movements per hour between 21:30 and 03:25, and individual runway directions close 21:00–07:00 for noise abatement. A late-night arrival can often be arranged; it should never be assumed. We confirm the slot before the client confirms the dinner reservation.

Facilities and the drive in

The airport-owned GAC handles all aircraft types with over 13,000 m² of hangar space, and Jet Aviation’s FBO at the Business Aviation Terminal doubles as a Gulfstream, Bombardier and Cessna service centre — useful cover if an aircraft needs attention while its passengers are in town. Central Vienna is 18 km away, 20 to 30 minutes by car; the CAT train reaches Wien Mitte in about 16 minutes.

Questions.

Do private jets need a slot at Vienna?

Yes — Vienna is fully coordinated. Slots open 28 days before the flight and carry a ±30 minute tolerance; we arrange them together with the handling.

Can you land in Vienna late at night?

Sometimes. There is no curfew, but night movements are tightly capped under the mediation agreement, so late slots are scarce and confirmed case by case.

How far ahead should we book?

The slot window opens 28 days out and single flights only — we request on day one for fixed dates, and a few days’ notice remains workable off-peak.
