Athens Eleftherios Venizelos.
Athens is Greece’s largest airport and its most capable: parallel runways of 4,000 m and 3,800 m, 24-hour operations, no night curfew, every business jet and VIP airliner accepted. Since March 2025 the constraint is administrative instead: mandatory GA slots and a parking regime that has redrawn how multi-day stays are planned.
Chartering from Athens
Every aircraft over 5,700 kg now needs a coordinated slot: private, air-taxi and even ferry legs, IFR and VFR alike. The request window opens only 7 days before the flight, the slot ID goes into flight-plan item 18, and discipline is hard-enforced: deviate more than 15 minutes from the confirmed slot and the flight plan is automatically suspended. In summer the departure banks around 06:00Z, 09:00Z, 12:00Z and 15:00Z run to delays of an hour or more without a confirmed slot, so we file the moment the window opens.
Our published lane from here is London from €36,500 all-in.
The 90-minute parking rule
Free parking has been cut from 12 hours to just 90 minutes, and anything longer needs a PPR that Athens issues only within 24 hours of the flight, which means overnight parking cannot be guaranteed in advance. For multi-day stays we do what the market now does: reposition the aircraft to Thessaloniki, Volos or Heraklion and ferry it back for the return leg. The client sees the same aircraft at the same steps; the difference sits in our planning, and it is priced transparently from the first quote.
Access and clearance
Central Athens is about 30 km by road, 35 to 45 minutes via Attiki Odos, with Metro Line 3 as the fallback. Greece is in Schengen, the airport is a 24-hour port of entry, and the handler escorts passengers through clearance on non-Schengen legs, which we pre-notify.
Questions.
Does Athens have a night curfew for private jets?
No. The airport and its handlers operate 24 hours; the constraints are slots and parking, not noise.
Can a private jet park overnight in Athens?
Not reliably. Parking beyond 90 minutes needs a PPR issued only within 24 hours of the flight, so we plan a repositioning to a nearby field where the stay requires it.
How far ahead should we book?
Fix the mission before the 7-day slot window opens. We file at the opening and hold the schedule inside the ±20 minute tolerance.
