Catania airports — CTA · LICC

Catania-Fontanarossa.

Catania Fontanarossa is the gateway to Taormina and Sicily’s east coast — open around the clock, no curfew, and the busiest airport on the island. It also sits beside an active volcano. Both facts are planning inputs, not surprises, and we treat them that way.

Chartering to Catania

The airport is slot-coordinated year-round — Sicily’s busiest field and the fourth busiest in Italy — so every movement needs an airport slot, filed by the handler, plus prior permission for GA parking beyond two hours. The compensation is real flexibility once you hold them: operations run H24 with no night restrictions, and unlike Palermo, where summer parking is typically capped at three to four days, Catania publishes no ground-time limit. Our published lane is Milan–Catania from €13,000, 1h40.

Etna, planned for

Ash is a genuine dispatch consideration here, and the honest numbers help: most closures last under a day, though the red-alert eruption of early July 2026 closed the field for roughly three. The single 2,560 m runway means no on-field redundancy while ash is swept. So we file an ash contingency on every Catania booking — Comiso, about 90 km south, or Palermo — and if the field closes we redirect or rebook rather than improvise.

Access and onward to Taormina

Central Catania is 10–15 minutes from the ramp. Taormina is 68 km up the A18 — 55 to 65 minutes by car — which is why helicopter onward legs are a common arrangement in season; we set those up within the same booking. There is no large dedicated GA campus: Signature CTA and the local handlers run GA through FBO lounges with escort through the main terminal’s security and immigration. Customs is on the airport but not H24 — non-Schengen passengers clear with handler escort and fast-track, up to 45 minutes at peaks, which we build into the schedule.

Questions.

How much is a private jet from Milan to Catania?

From €13,000 all-in for the 1h40 flight — an indicative from-price on our block-hour model.

What happens if Etna disrupts the flight?

Every booking carries a pre-filed alternate — typically Comiso or Palermo. Most ash closures clear within a day; if yours does not, we move the flight or the airport, and you hear the plan from us first.

How do we get to Taormina?

About an hour by car on the A18, arranged through the handler — or a helicopter transfer, added to the same itinerary.
