London Luton airports — LTN · EGGW

London Luton.

Luton is the London airport that stays open when the others have closed: 24 hours a day in winter, two round-the-clock FBOs, and a 2,162 m runway that accepts the ultra-long-range types Biggin Hill and London City cannot. When a London mission runs late or heavy, this is usually where we put it.

Chartering from Luton

Movements are slot-coordinated and a handling agent is mandatory for every visiting aircraft, so each flight is set up through one of two FBOs: Harrods Aviation’s Omnia terminal, sized for sports-team and large-group movements, or Signature Flight Support. Both run 24/7 and both are IS-BAH accredited. Our published lane from here is Nice from €13,000 all-in.

The summer night rule

Luton’s one real constraint is seasonal. In winter the airport is open around the clock; in summer (recent seasons ran mid-June to mid-September) night movements between 23:00 and 06:59 are limited to a small ad-hoc slot pool, first-come-first-served and restricted to aircraft of Quota Count 0.5 or quieter. Most light and midsize jets qualify at QC 0.25; older, louder heavies do not. The 2025 pool held 100 slots for the entire season, so a summer night arrival is booked early or planned for 07:00; we confirm the current season’s dates with the handler before quoting. Two further realities: noise-abatement departure profiles are enforced with routine fines, so crews brief specifically for Luton, and overnight parking is reportedly the most expensive in the London area, above $2,000 a night for a Global-class aircraft, which is why heavy jets often drop passengers and reposition.

Getting into London

The airport sits about 48 km north of central London: 50–70 minutes by car, or roughly 35–40 minutes door-to-door via the DART shuttle and a Thameslink service into St Pancras.

Questions.

Is Luton open 24 hours?

In winter, yes. In summer, nights from 23:00 to 06:59 run on a limited slot pool for quieter aircraft only, so we confirm availability with the handler before committing to a night arrival.

How much is a private jet from Luton?

Nice from €13,000 all-in on our block-hour model; other lanes are quoted on request.

Why choose Luton over Farnborough or Biggin Hill?

Runway and hours. The 2,162 m runway takes a Global 7500 or G650ER, and outside the summer night pool Luton keeps working after the dedicated business airports have closed.
