Is September a good time to charter to the Mediterranean?

One of the best. Water is at its warmest, the August crowds and slot pressure ease, and empty-leg supply peaks as operators reposition aircraft home from the islands. Midweek dates in the second half of the month tend to price lowest.

Why are there more empty legs in late summer?

The summer fleet distributes across the islands in July and August and flies home through September. Each repositioning flight can be sold as an empty leg. The flows follow geography: Corsica and Sardinia empty toward Nice and the north, the Balearics toward Geneva, Zurich and London.

How flexible do my dates need to be for an empty leg?

A day or two is usually enough in September; the flows are dense. Empty legs expire within hours of release, so an alert works better than checking a page. Our alert desk emails you when an aircraft is released on your lane.

Are the island airports still restricted in September?

Formally, often yes: Figari, for example, stays slot-coordinated until late October. In practice the pressure drops sharply with the crowds, and parking or timing requests that failed in early August succeed in late September.

September is the quiet secret of the Mediterranean charter season. The crowds thin, the water is at its warmest, the slot pressure eases, and the aircraft that spent August shuttling between the islands start flying home. That last part is where the value is.

Where the aircraft are in late summer

By the end of August the fleet is distributed across the leisure map: Ibiza and Palma, Olbia, Figari, Mykonos, Nice as the hub between them. Through September that distribution unwinds. Operators pull aircraft back toward their bases, and every repositioning flight is a potential empty leg: the same aircraft, a fraction of the price, on the day it happens to be flying anyway.

The unwinding follows the geography. The Nice to Olbia lane runs both ways all month. Corsica empties northward through Figari and Ajaccio. The Balearics feed back into Geneva, Zurich and London. If your dates are flexible by even a day or two, late summer is the best empty-leg hunting of the year, and our alert desk does the watching.

Corsica keeps its slot coordination until late October, but the pressure drops with the crowds; parking that was impossible in the first week of August becomes a phone call in the last week of September. Pricing softens, but not evenly

Charter prices in late September can sit noticeably below the August peak on the same lane, but the softening is uneven: weekends still price like weekends, and the last Sunday of the school holidays prices like the last Sunday of the school holidays.
