Notes
Swiss customs and immigration on site throughout operating hours. Switzerland is Schengen but not EU — goods and VAT formalities apply on arrivals from abroad.
Samedan is the airport St. Moritz actually uses — at 1,707 metres, Europe’s highest airport served by business jets, six kilometres from the resort. It rewards planning like nowhere else we arrange: the field has no lighting, so when the sun goes down behind the Engadin peaks, the airport closes with it.
Chartering to Samedan
The operating window is the whole story in winter: doors close thirty minutes after sunset, which in late December means roughly half past five. We plan arrivals into the early afternoon, keep a lit alternate briefed, and treat the schedule with more respect than usual — there are no evening extensions, because there is nothing to switch on. Altitude does the rest: at 5,600 feet the air is thin enough to cut climb performance materially, crews need a mandatory Samedan familiarisation, and the 1,840-metre runway favours the aircraft we place on our London to St. Moritz lane — super light jets, from €13,000 all-in, about an hour and thirty-six minutes.
Ramp space runs tight from Christmas through the White Turf and Snow Polo weekends, and Davos week brings its own restrictions — in peak winter we coordinate parking when we book the flight, not after.
Facilities
The airport runs its own handling through a single terminal: customs during all operating hours, limousine transfer on the apron from aircraft to kerb, and the drive into St. Moritz done in the time most airports need for the walk to arrivals.
Frequently asked questions
Can you fly a private jet directly to St. Moritz?
Yes — to Samedan, six kilometres from St. Moritz. It is daylight-only, so winter arrivals are planned for the early afternoon.
How much is a private jet to St. Moritz?
From €13,000 all-in from London on a super light jet. Winter peak weekends carry parking pressure that we plan into the quote.
Why do you recommend smaller jets for Samedan?
Altitude and runway. At 1,707 m elevation on a 1,840 m strip, super light aircraft keep full flexibility where larger cabins start trading payload.
