Every movement is prior-permission, arranged with the airport itself, and the operating hours are fixed by planning law rather than staffing: 07:00 to 22:00 on weekdays, 08:00 to 20:00 at weekends, with no extensions available to anyone. That last fact matters more than it looks: a Sunday-evening return from Ibiza is planned against a hard 20:00 door, and weekend capacity runs close to its cap in summer, so we book those slots early rather than hope. Aircraft up to BBJ size are accepted; nothing larger operates here outside the airshow.

One terminal, operator-run handling, Border Force clearance in the lounge, and your car driven to the aircraft steps. The drive from central London runs about an hour. That is the price of an airport built where noise rules could be generous to business aviation rather than airlines. For departures east of the city, London Biggin Hill competes on drive time and runs longer summer hours.
